This is a hotly contested question, as many would like to say that the development of Type 2 Diabetes is genetic, it runs in the family. This can be a dangerous thought process.
As whilst genetic factors and having a family history of Type 2 Diabetes may play a part, from our experience, this is so in the vast minority of cases. And it is really important to understand this point. If we hand our control over to “it’s in my genes”, then we have lost control of the battle. It’s genetic. “There is nothing I can do about it.”
AND THAT IS, FOR MOST PEOPLE, NOT TRUE!
From my experience, a person’s habits, diet, lifestyle and mindeset is FAR more likely to have led them down the path to a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. And this is a GOOD thing! It may not feel like it’s a good thing if you are recently diagnosed or have lived with Type 2 for many years, but the fact that genetics probably DO NOT play a part in your condition means that you can have total CONTROL of how you move forwards in dealing with it!
It’s no longer needs to be your ‘fate’ to live with Type 2 for the rest of your life. Changing habits, mindset, diet and lifestyle can lead you to a path of remission. But then, that’s easier said than done, which is where the accountability, coaching and education services of Diabetes Solutions come in to play…
